People who are successful in their chosen fields do more of the right actions every day, over the long term.
When I say ‘right actions’, I mean actions that lead to results. More of the right actions, means more results. More results means success, provided your expenses are under control.
Most people know what the right actions are, but seem incapable of performing the right actions for a sustained period of time. It appears that long term is the killer.
Now I’m not going to nag you about goals. I think I’ve said enough about goals and their importance to focusing on results over the long term. If you know about goals but still refuse to set them, that’s a big problem.
I want to try another approach.
For the time being, let’s not think about goals, and let’s not think about performing actions over the long term.
Instead let’s focus on doing the right actions for just one day.
First of all, think of the actions you need to perform daily if you want to succeed as a real estate salesperson.
The right actions for one weekday are:
- Prospecting for new business. Minimum of 40 potential sellers spoken with;
- Visiting your current listings: one seller (vendor) face to face, asking for a price reduction if necessary;
- Taking out one qualified buyer;
- Attending the day’s seller and buyer appointments.
If I asked you to do this every day, you might say it’s impossible. But could you do this for just one day?
Supposed I kidnapped somebody close to you and told you that my ‘ransom’ demand was that tomorrow you had to make 40 prospecting calls, visit one of your current sellers, take out one qualified buyer, and you had to fit this extra activity around your day’s seller and buyer appointments, or I’d kill your loved one, could you do it?
No doubt you answered ‘yes’. Of course you can do it for just one day.
But just because somebody can do something, it doesn’t mean they will. So my next question is, will you? For just one day?
Spend just one day doing the right actions and nothing else. Do this and you will prove to yourself that you can do it.
Confucius say, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step“.
Pittard say, “A successful career begins with the right actions for just one day“.
Prove to yourself that:
- You know what the right actions are;
- You can do the right amount of the right actions in a single day.
Once you’ve completed your right-action day, email me on firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know how you feel.
I bet you’ll feel elated. You’ll finish this one day knowing that you spent the whole day giving nothing but your best. I’ll bet you’ll feel inspired to try it again.
You might find it addictive. I hope so… not too many people are addicted to spending their days doing the right actions constantly, but high achievers are.
Give it a go.
For just one day focus on doing nothing but the right actions. You will start to take control of your career and, who knows, it could be the start of something great.
